What's your expectation of weed growth in our lakes this year? With one of the wettest winters ever, the nutrient runoff from the fields and ever growing pollution from the water companies could have a big effect if its a warm summer.

I think you mentioned the term “salad bowl” a few weeks ago. I reckon that’s what we’ll be faced with.

certainly on the lake in question unless they dye the water earlier than last year.

  • Nidge

Didn’t realised that they dyed it. Have they done that every year?

The two waters I'm on this year, one is completely new to me and I've no idea on it's history regarding weed.

The other, when I was originally a member back in 2016 it used to weed up big time, but I've been told the last two years the weed had pretty much disappeared.
Last weekend I was finding small areas of low lying weed towards the shallows so hopefully it's making a return, although I'm not sure others feel the same about it.

Even Sulby has its moments. Usually just bistort up the arms but there is an increasing amount of milfoil in the past few years.
One year (many years ago) there must have been a signifacnt run off from the fields as the place was basically unfishhable due to the massive amount of silk week which plumed nearly to the surface. Thankfully that was a one off.

It'll certainly be interesting to see what happens this year, especially with all the run off from the surrounding farm land
